Driving your car under the influence of alcohol is considered to be a very serious offence in Australia, and the amount of alcohol level will determine the type of punishment that you will have to undergo.
There are two types of drinking and driving offences that can be charged to you in Australia. The first case is driving under the influence of alcohol, and the second one is driving with the prescribed levels of alcohol. If the alcohol levels in your system are more than the consequences that you will need to face in terms of punishment would also be more.
There are a plethora of charges that are established by road transport in Australia on a person who drinks and drives his vehicle. If you have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol and if this is the first time that you have been caught by the Australian police for such an offence, then you will be charged depending on the concentration of alcohol that is present inside your body.
The police will usually have a blood alcohol testing equipment with them and hence reading the number of alcohol levels in your body will not be a problem at all. If the police do not have the device to check blood alcohol levels, then you will be charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.

If you are caught for drink driving offences for low range alcohol level (0.05 to 0.079), then you will need to pay a fine of $1100 and minimum or maximum disqualification of 3 months or 6 months respectively.
For mid-range from 0.08 to 0.149, the price that you need to pay would be $2200 and six months minimum or 12 months automatic disqualification and the severity of the punishment increases to $3,300 and automatic disqualification for three years if you are caught drink driving for the second time.
If the blood alcohol levels go beyond 0.15, then you need to pay $3300 for the first offence and $ 5,500 for the second time offence. Also, this offence would attract a minimum disqualification for 12 months and automatic disqualification for three years for the first offence and two years minimum disqualification and five years automatic disqualification for a second offence.
